Why did I take these pictures?
I am an artist. I see, hear, and feel the world differently than the non-artist. I am compelled, driven, even pulled to express myself through art, primarily photography, but also writing, music, and painting.
Photography gives me the tools and the means to feel the inexhaustible excitement to discover, then capture, and finally release surprise and beauty to the viewer.
The trend I have noticed in my work is the presentation of the duality between the physical world and our inner silent ineffable world. Therefore, buildings and machines contrast with nature in its raw form -- water, sky, vegetation, light, and shadows.
At other times, I present a stripped-down intimacy that invites the viewer to rest, wonder, marvel at pure shape, pure colour, and be filled up, satisfied, and restored. My photos take me beyond the initial appearance of a subject or object to a space beyond everyday existence.
I have been part of the region’s Artists in Their Environment annual studio tour in Chelsea-Wakefield, Quebec. For five years beginning in 2000, public visitors to my studio averaged eight hundred during the two weekends of the tour.
